border
(noun) 1. a line separating two political or geographical areas 2. the edge or boundary of something (verb) 1. to form an edge along or beside something |
conversation
(noun) 1. the informal exchange of ideas through spoken words from the Middle English word "converse" meaning "living among, familiarity, intimacy" also "manner of conducting oneself in the world" |
This event will bring together a small community of artists and representatives of organizations such as Hands of Peace and Karam Foundation working with topics around displacement, conflict, and borders to share a meal, along with our experiences, thoughts, and beliefs around these topics. Modeling care and togetherness as a way of being in the world presents a possible solution to these larger problems. Conversation becomes an art form for shaping individual change. These simple acts create something poetic, symbolic, and meaningful.
Come together to expand the dialogue around borders—whether geographic, social, economic, emotional, personal, or otherwise. How can we continue to look at the difficult things that are happening in the world? How do we make sense of it? How do we talk about it? How do we create change as individuals? Where does conversation end and action begin? Where do they overlap? Where do the separations, edges and boundaries exist within us? What do we separate?
